The Holiday Season Is
A Great Time To Sell A House!

It's a time-honored tradition that around the end-of-year holiday season the real estate market slows down. That doesn’t mean it will be harder to sell your house during the holidays. With an aggressive approach, you might even have a better chance of selling your house at this time of year.

There are a few misconceptions about what happens in real estate after Thanksgiving. First, while sales slow down, they do still occur. The percentages are not as significant as many people think. Second, just because there are fewer sales doesn’t mean it will be harder to sell. Buyers, sellers and agents all slow down together. That means that the buyers, sellers and agents that are still serious can do business just as effectively. If there are fewer buyers, there are also fewer sellers that are competing against you. Agents hold fewer open houses, so if your agent holds your house open, you will get more exposure than other houses on the market. And there are buyers out there. A certain segment of the population will always have to move for one reason or another.

The buyers that do come through your house will be serious. Through much of the year, the buyers that go out looking will be wasting your time. The people that are not serious will the first ones to stop looking during the holidays. Those who are still in the market will be more direct, are more likely to do things properly. There is a greater likelihood that they will be financially qualified, and they are less likely to look at houses that don’t meet all the criteria they want. Remember, these are the people that HAVE TO move.

Another thing to take into consideration is that your house never looks better! Many people prepare their home for visitors that maybe stopping by at holiday time. The house is cleaner than it is at other times during the year, and the holidays give many people the opportunity to put up their best decorations.
